Parent's Page

Thank you for your interest in HLCA! These pages were created to help you, as a parent, to decide if HLCA is the educational choice for you and your student(s). Below are some of the most frequently asked questions. As always, please feel free to contact us at any time.

What are HLCA's school hours?

School days at HLCA are Monday through Thursday for all students except Preschool (Preschool days are Tuesday through Thursday). All grades begin school at 8:00 a.m. Preschool and Kindergarten dismiss at 11:30 a.m., Elementary grades at 3:00 p.m. and Junior and Senior High at 2:55 p.m. Attendance is extremely important, so parents are urged to schedule doctor or dentist appointments on Fridays to ensure maximum instruction time.

Does HLCA provide transportation?

It is the parent's responsibility to transport their student to and from school. A written or verbal release is required for students to ride home with anyone other than their parents. High School students may drive upon proof of valid license and insurance.

What curriculum do you use?

The Bible is our primary book for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. A Beka is the core Curriculum used at HLCA in a traditional classroom setting. Other material from Bob Jones, School of Tomorrow, and other educational sources are used to meet individualized needs. The Barton Reading Program is used as a tutoring system to help those students struggling with dyslexia and other reading problems. A staffed Resource Center with state-of-the-art software and hardware provides each student with the skills necessary to succeed in today's world.

What are your class sizes?

We limit enrollment so each classroom has only 12-15 students. This is arranged so students will receive one-on-one attention, tutoring, or small group instruction when necessary. This enables the student to maintain grade level in every subject or to work in a positive way at achieving their grade level.

What are HLCA's affiliations?

We are a non-denominational Christian school working with the community to provide a high standard of academic excellence for students PK-12th grade. Our school is a ministry of House of the Lord Church and is a member of ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International). Our school is  an official reading site of the Barton Reading Program. Our sports program offering boy's soccer, girl's volleyball and girl's and boy's basketball programs is involved in the Christian Mountain League. A Junior High basketball league for boys and for girls takes place in early Spring.

Do you offer any testing?

Along with our mid-term, quarter, and semester exams, HLCA uses the Stanford Achievement Test, 10th Edition, to test our students in even grades in April. Parent/Teacher Conferences are held at the conclusion of the First Quarter so teachers can communicate their goals and expectations and parents can meet their student's instructors and share any concerns they may have for the present school year. 10th Graders take the PLAN (Pre-ACT) test and 11th Graders take the PSAT/NMSQT test. Both test are give in October.

Is HLCA's tuition expensive?

Tuition costs are set to be as affordable as possible for families and still maintain a financial stability for the school. We realize that our tuition amounts will not cover all the costs related to the school. Additional funds must be raised through events, donations and gifts in kind. Our Benevon program helps raise community awareness and financial support in order to allow attendance for all who have a desire to enroll in our school. Check out our Tuition page for more information.
